A tab is a “currency concept“ that we use as a manner for Tabfund to account for the contributions that a user has made to the amount of funds raised. It does not hold a specific value.
Each tab donated is a vote for where the money raised should be allocated to. When donating tabs a user is simply helping allocate a bigger percentage of the money raised to the research projects that are encompassed by the research subject to which they have donated to.
Our browser extension contains 3 ad banners that provide ad-revenue every time a user opens a new tab and those ads get displayed. This ad revenue is then used to support Research.

No. Every trimester we run our research projects through an evaluation process and look for potential new candidates to replace projects that have already achieved satisfactory results.
Currently, we look for research projects that fit our research fields and after careful consideration and discussion with their parent organisations we choose the projects that better suit our goals.
There is a minimum amount set to be raised to each project. After than minimum is achieved and until a deadline set by the research centre: the amount of money allocated to the fund of each subject will be proportional to the amount of tabs donated to that subject in relation to the total amount of tabs donated. i.e. if 13.58% of tab donations were to support COVID-19 research, than 13.58% of the total money generated will be allocated to COVID-19 research.
The money donated to individual research projects is dependent solely on the agreement made between Tabfund and the project’s parent Research Institution.

If you don’t donate your tabs we won’t know which research subjects you support, but we will still add the money that was generated through ad-revenue to the Research funds. Nevertheless, you can donate those tabs in the next quarter and weigh in on where the money for that quarter will be donated.
Tabs do not hold a specific value. As the ad-revenue generated by each User fluctuates depending on region, User interests and timing, we cannot state that a tab is worth a specific amount.
