Established in 2015, i3S is upheld by the extensive and renowned research experience of its founding institutes. It is currently the largest Portuguese research institute in the health sciences, with a focus on Cancer, Infection and Immunity, Tissue Regeneration, Neurobiology and Neurologic Disorders.
Guided by a strong social and ethical responsibility, the i3S community rallied together as the first cases of COVID-19 were confirmed to coordinate solutions to the pandemic crisis. Since April, about 150 volunteers have been doing diagnosis tests and preparing sample collection kits. To answer to particular local municipal requests, serologic screening campaigns have also been set up.

Partnership Goal: benefit the installation of a laboratory area devoted exclusively to the detection, study and advancement of new solutions to tackle COVID-19 and future emerging pathogens.
